The Role

Based in Paris as a web developer for Amazon.fr, I was selected to travel to Seattle to work with the US Electronics team on their new templating engine. After learning the system hands-on with the Seattle team, I returned to France to implement it on the French website and train the rest of the Paris team.

This cross-continental collaboration extended to working with the Japanese team to support the launch of Amazon.co.jp.

Key Contributions

  • Amazon.fr Launch: Core web developer for Amazon's French market entry
  • Templating Engine Implementation: Traveled to Seattle to learn the US Electronics team's new templating system firsthand
  • Knowledge Transfer: Returned to Paris to implement the templating engine and train the French development team
  • Amazon.co.jp Support: Collaborated with the Japanese team on their market launch
  • Cross-Team Bridge: Served as technical liaison between US, French, and Japanese engineering teams

Lasting Impact

The Amazon experience shaped my approach to international engineering:

  • Early exposure to building systems at global scale
  • Understanding of how to bridge engineering teams across cultures and time zones
  • Appreciation for knowledge transfer and team enablement
  • Experience launching products in multiple international markets
  • Foundation in e-commerce systems that serve millions of customers
